rief of emerald was formed back in 90-92. Robert (keys) joined in '95 and we recorded a demo called "The Beginning", which was later released as a limited mini cd (500). Listenable Records offered us a deal and we signed for them for 3 cd's. We released our debut fullength album called "Nightspawn" and it received very good response.

Then we started to work on new material. Fredrik (drums) was kicked out and got replaced by a new drummer named Jonas. He joined a couple of months before the recording of our second cd entitled "Malformed seed".

We did some touring around Europe and got pretty good response. We played at the "Wave Gothic treffen" in Germany (Leipzig) and the "Party San Open Air Festival" (also Germany). Gigs with Immortal, Marduk, Necrophobic etc. were done. We also headlined a festival in Finland by the way. After all this we took a break from touring and focused on new material completely. We were pretty pissed off on the average critics on our "Malformed seed" album and decided to make a really pissed off album which is "Christian Termination".

Jonas is suffering from some shoulder problems (started in the studio when we recorded Christian termination ) he is now replaced by a session drummer untill he gets back. We're entering the studio to record a tribute song to Celtic frost. After a few months we deicided to go on tour whit Bestial Mockery, Sear Bliss, Skyforgir and Obtest.

The tour last for half a month because our instruments was total disaster and we didn't get any food or sleep so we refused to play in Helsinki (Sorry guys!) and then we were kicked out of the tour.

Jonas arm has not improved so Karl Karlsson is now our new drummer. Robert Bengtsson has quit Grief of Emerald for personal reasons and Jonas Blom helped us with keybords for a while but leaved quite soon. You will find him in a new band called Azezeron!

The replacement and the new keyboard player is Lena Hjalmarsson from Cyphoria. Anders Tång has also left the band. The sparkle wasn't there anymore. Andreas Hedström from Descending is the replacement on bass guitar. Well thats all for now!

rief of Emerald wurde 1996 gegründet als Johnny (ex DECAMERON) und Anders (NECROFEAST) beschlossen gemeinsam eine Band zu gründen. Zwei Jahre später entstand die mini CD durch einem schottischen Label das ausverkauft wurde. 1998 ging die Band zum Label Listenable über und unterschrieb einen 3 Alben Vertrag da erste Album war ‘Nightspawn’.

Obwohl es sehr kritische Beurteilungen der Presse hatte war das Album sehr erfolgreich. Der Sound des Album hatte die Wurzeln des skandinavischen Black/Death Metal a la DISSECTION das weltweit sehr bekannt ist, aber GRIEF OF EMERALD hatte einfach mehr Stärke in den Gitarren Riffs einen etwas anderen Stil similar zu manchen Us Death Metal Bands . Sie machten sicher ein starkes Album zu erstellen und zugleich nicht den Rage oder Fury zu verlieren.

Ihr zweites Album ‘Malformed seed’, wurde im Jahre 2000 veröffentlicht, dieses mal wechselte die Band den Stil etwas, langsamer mit mehr Groove in der Musik . Man hatte aber noch immer den rohen dreckigen Sound talentiert eingearbeitet und somit dem Gehör ware freude bereitet. Grief Of Emerald stachen somit aus den vielen schwedischen Black / Death Metal Bands hervor.

Im selben Jahr hatten sie Ihre erste Tour durch Europa, und traten in Festivals wie die deutschen Partisan und Wave Gotik Treffen auf tausende Verlorene Seelen konnten sie so hören.

Nach einer 2 Jahre Schöpfungspause und Tourpause veröffentlichten sie im Jahre 2002 ihr drittes Album mit den kritischen Title ‘Christian termination’. Sie sind sauer gewesen und man kann dies auch aus dem Album hören. Bevor sie auf Tour gingen nahmen sie noch einen Tribute Song für Celtic Frost auf, die darauf folgende Tour war aber nicht lange von Dauer, schlechtes Equipment und Bedingungen zwangen die Band zu einem frühzeitigen Abruch Bands die mit auf dieser Tour auftraten waren Bestial Mockery, Sear Bliss, Skyforgir und Obtest .

In den Laufenden Jahren trennten sich Bandmembers wie Robert Bengtsson und Jonas.
